South Sound Women's Center, an OB/GYN Practice in Olympia, WA

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is almost universal in women.  In some women the symptoms are severe enough it can result in the diagnosis of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder or PMDD.

Treatment of PMS or PMDD depends on the severity of the symptoms.  In other words, how the symptoms affect a patient's quality of life, relationships etc.

The diagnosis is fairly straight forward as the symptoms appear or worsen some time during the two weeks before a patient's period begins, and lessen or disappear within a few days of the onset of a period.

Treatment options include:

  • Dietary recommendations
  • Exercise
  • Birth Control Pills
  • In more extreme cases that have failed all medical treatments, the ovaries can be removed

Your SSWC provider will be happy to discuss treatment options if you feel PMS is affecting your life enough that something needs to be done.
