Pelvic Pain Evaluation
Pelvic pain is one of the more difficult problems to diagnose and treat. There are many causes of pelvic pain in women. Some of the more common are:
- Infection (pelvic organs or bladder)
- Inflammatory process
- Ovarian cysts that rupture or bleed
- Ovulation
- Endometriosis
- Adhesions or scar tissue
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
- History of sexual abuse
Your provider will discuss appropriate lab and radiology tests as part of the diagnostic workup.
Medication(s) may be prescribed for a specific diagnosis, or a trial of medication(s) recommended.
Laparoscopy can be used in the diagnosis if no cause is found or a medication trial does not result in improvement.
Physical Therapy can be useful in some patients with pelvic pain.
