Tumors of the Uterus/Ovaries
SSWC physicians evaluate and treat tumors of the uterus and ovaries.
The most common uterine tumor is known as a Fibroid. The medical term is Leiomyoma. Over 99% of the time these tumors are benign. Most can just be observed with no treatment. If a Fibroid is causing excessive bleeding or pain, there are medical, radiology and surgical options. Your provider will discuss the most appropriate option(s) with you.
- Birth control pills
- Hysterectomy (Vaginal or Abdominal)
If you are diagnosed with a uterine cancer, we can arrange for you to have an appointment with a Gynecologic surgeon who has specialized in reproductive organ cancers.
Ovarian tumors are almost never watched over time. The treatment is surgical removal using either Laparoscopy or an Abdominal Incision. The vast majority of these are benign, and most of the time a hysterectomy in conjuction with removal of the ovary is not indicated.
If we determine there is a high likelihood your ovarian tumor is cancerous, we can arrange for you to have an appointment with a Gynecologic surgeon who has specialized in reproductive organ cancers.
